Jocasta Menos was born to an upper-middle class family in the North Bay; her father became quite successful as a marine engineer during Sausalito’s rapid urbanization during the Second World War. A talented athlete, gifted artist, and keen reader as a young girl, she attained a scholarship to UC-Berkeley, where she studied psychology.
Leaving school after achieving an undergraduate degree, Jocasta began a relationship with a wealthy young man she met in college, who died in a tragic accident soon after they moved in together. Some years later, she relocated and married a local radio personality, but they were divorced soon afterwards. Following a traumatic experience tied to the dissolution of her marriage, Jocasta fell into a state of paranoia and alienation, developing a serious drug habit. She drifted for several years.
Lacking direction and estranged from her family, she joined the U.S. Army and was assigned to an administrative position with the ASA and soon proved to have a knack for intelligence work. She was detached to a training program known informally as “the Natural Guard,” a special commando unit using New Age training techniques which was a pipeline to Project SANDMAN.
While she demonstrated great aptitude in shooting, hand-to-hand combat, intelligence analysis, and occultism, and while testing revealed that she was in possession of low-level psi abilities, her personality, personal beliefs, and psychological profile led to SANDMAN brass judging her a better fit for Operation URIEL.

She sees the file and winces a bit, like she’s about to have a conversation she’s had before but never gotten quite right.
